Many times knowing and using test taking skills can be the difference between passing and failing or getting OK results verses getting better or great results. Skills to take a test can be learned and should be learned by everyone.
You will of course need to have an understanding of the material, but by using test taking skills to pass the NCLEX exam you should have more favorable results then if you did not learn and use these skills.
After you have studied you will most likely feel more confident. Remember however that most people still get stressed out some prior to sitting for a test. Here are some tips you should remember to help you on your test.
1) Watch your time to make sure you do not spend too much of it on any one area. Spending too much time on one problem may mean you run out of time on other problems.
2) For multiple choice questions if you do not know the answer to try eliminate as many answers as you can before guessing.
Study guides are usually high level overviews assuming you have already been through the main material.
Many study guides for passing the NCLEX will include practice tests to help you better prepare for the exam.
Test prep is essential and as such the majority of study guides will include practice questions. These can usually be located at the completion or ending of sections or chapters.
It is becoming more common for nurses who already have an RN to go back to school later in their career to earn an RN to BSN degree in order to advance their career such as going into management. Just something to think about!
