If you are considering becoming a nurse you are not alone. It is no secret that demand for nurses is growing due to the aging population. However becoming a nurse may not be as quick and easy as you think. First you have to get accepted into a nursing school. There are many different nursing schools that have different types of programs. In addition to four year Universities many community colleges also offer two year nursing programs. Whether a 2 year or a 4 year nursing program is right for you depends on your career goals.
After you decide, or maybe before, on a 2 year or 4 year program you need to find out what type of nurses entrance exam the school will require you to take. Many nursing schools have their prospective students sit or take the NET Exam (Nursing Entrance Test), while others may have them take the HESI Exam (Health Education Systems, Inc) or the TEAS Exam (Test of Essential Academic Skills). After you find out which test or exam you will need to pass you will find many study guide resources on this site.
Before you buy any nursing study guides however you should check with the nursing schools you have an interest in to find out the specifics of what they require for their pre-nursing students. Also each school is different as far as what they look at or consider before accepting pre-nursing students into their nursing program.
Generally these pre-nursing school exams try to determine if the potential student has a good basic understand of certain areas of study such as math. The test scores achieved may have a significant bearing on who gets accepted into nursing schools. Other factors may include your high school GPA. Therefore it is important to study and do well on any pre-nursing exam you may need to take. There are study guides available to help you prepare for the nursing test you need to sit for. You would be wise to use them and take several different practice tests before sitting. Many of the study guides have practice questions on sample test that may be similar to the actual exam you will take.
